Common questions about aesthetic training for physicians.

Physicians can learn a comprehensive range of aesthetic procedures including Botox and neurotoxin injections, dermal fillers (lips, cheeks, jawline, under-eye), PRP therapy for facial rejuvenation and hair restoration, sclerotherapy for spider veins, laser treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair removal, chemical peels, and advanced facial contouring techniques. Our courses cover both foundational skills and advanced techniques for experienced injectors.
All AAOPM courses are AAOPM certified. Additionally, select courses may award AMA PRA Category 1 Credits when applicable based on course requirements. Upon successful completion, you receive an AAOPM Certificate of Completion documenting your training.
Absolutely. Our aesthetic training is open to physicians from all specialties including family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, OB/GYN, dermatology, psychiatry, and more. Many physicians add aesthetics to diversify their practice, create additional revenue streams, and meet patient demand for cosmetic services. No prior aesthetic experience is required for our foundational courses.
Our courses combine didactic lectures covering facial anatomy, product knowledge, patient assessment, and safety protocols with extensive hands-on training on live patients. Physicians practice injection techniques under direct supervision of expert faculty in small group settings, ensuring personalized attention and immediate feedback. We also offer livestream options for the didactic portions.
Most physicians can begin offering basic aesthetic services after completing our 1-2 day comprehensive courses. However, true proficiency develops with practice and continued education. We recommend starting with foundational courses like Comprehensive Botox Training or Dermal Filler Training, then progressing to advanced techniques as you build experience with patients. Many physicians return for advanced courses within 6-12 months.
AAOPM provides ongoing support including access to our physician community, clinical resources, and faculty consultations. We offer refresher courses, advanced training opportunities, and certification pathways for physicians seeking to demonstrate expertise in aesthetic medicine.
