PA Supervision Requirements

PAs practice under physician supervision, with requirements varying by state. Some states allow general supervision (physician available by phone), while others require more direct oversight. Collaborative practice agreements define your scope in aesthetic settings. Your training and experience allow you to become the primary injector in busy practices while maintaining compliance with state regulations.

Common questions about aesthetic training for physician assistants.

Yes, physician assistants can perform aesthetic procedures under the supervision or collaboration of a licensed physician, depending on state regulations. Many PAs work in medical spas, dermatology practices, and plastic surgery offices performing Botox, fillers, and other cosmetic treatments. The level of supervision required varies by state, with some allowing more autonomy than others.
AAOPM offers comprehensive aesthetic training for PAs including Botox and neurotoxin injections, dermal fillers for lips, cheeks, and facial contouring, PRP therapy, sclerotherapy, and advanced injection techniques. All courses include hands-on training with live patients under expert supervision.
All AAOPM courses are AAOPM certified. Additionally, select courses may award CME credits when applicable based on course requirements. Upon completion, you receive an AAOPM Certificate of Completion.
Supervision requirements vary by state. Some states require direct physician supervision, while others allow PAs to practice with general supervision or collaborative agreements. AAOPM training prepares you to practice within your state's scope of practice regulations. We recommend checking with your state medical board for specific requirements.
Job prospects for aesthetic PAs are excellent.
