Common questions about aesthetic training for emergency medicine physicians.

Absolutely. Emergency medicine physicians are excellent candidates for aesthetic medicine. Your medical training, procedural experience, and patient assessment skills provide a strong foundation for cosmetic procedures. Many EM physicians successfully transition to full-time aesthetics or add it as a part-time income stream while maintaining their EM practice.
All AAOPM courses are AAOPM certified. Additionally, select courses may award CME credits when applicable based on course requirements. Upon completion, you receive an AAOPM Certificate of Completion documenting your training.
Many EM physicians start by taking weekend aesthetic courses while continuing their ED work. After gaining competency, some gradually reduce EM shifts while building an aesthetic practice. Others make a complete transition. AAOPM offers foundational courses in Botox and fillers, followed by advanced training as you develop your skills. Our team can help you create a transition plan that fits your goals.
Many of your EM skills transfer directly: injection techniques from IV starts and local anesthesia, facial anatomy knowledge from trauma care, ability to manage complications, calm demeanor under pressure, and strong patient communication skills. Your experience assessing patients quickly and identifying potential problems makes you well-suited for safe aesthetic practice.
Start with AAOPM's foundational courses in neurotoxins (Botox) and dermal fillers. These weekend courses provide hands-on training with live patients, giving you the skills and confidence to begin offering aesthetic services. From there, you can advance to specialized courses in areas like PDO threads, PRP therapy, or body contouring based on your interests and practice goals.
AAOPM provides ongoing support including access to our physician community, clinical resources, and faculty consultations. We offer refresher courses, advanced training opportunities, and certification pathways.
