  • TMJ & Bruxism Treatment: Use Botox therapeutically to treat TMJ disorders, chronic jaw pain, and teeth grinding—providing real relief for your patients.
  • Perioral Expertise: No one understands the lips and perioral area better than dentists. Enhance lip aesthetics and treat smoker's lines with precision.
  • Patient Convenience: Offer aesthetic treatments in the same trusted environment where patients already receive care—no referrals needed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about aesthetic training for dentists.

Yes, in most states dentists can legally perform Botox and dermal filler injections within the head and neck region. Many state dental boards have expanded scope of practice to include facial aesthetics, recognizing dentists' expertise in facial anatomy and injection techniques. Regulations vary by state, so we recommend checking with your state dental board for specific guidelines on aesthetic procedures.
All AAOPM courses are AAOPM certified. Additionally, select courses may award dental continuing education credits when applicable based on course requirements. Upon successful completion, you receive an AAOPM Certificate of Completion documenting your training.
Botox has significant therapeutic applications in dentistry including treatment of TMJ disorders (temporomandibular joint dysfunction), bruxism (teeth grinding), masseter hypertrophy, chronic facial pain, and headaches related to jaw tension. Many dentists start with therapeutic applications before expanding into cosmetic uses, as it provides immediate value to patients suffering from these conditions.
Dentists can offer a range of perioral filler treatments including lip augmentation and reshaping, correction of perioral lines (smoker's lines), marionette line treatment, nasolabial fold reduction, and chin augmentation. Your expertise in the oral and perioral anatomy makes you uniquely qualified to deliver natural-looking results in these areas.
State regulations for dental aesthetics vary significantly. Many states explicitly permit dentists to perform Botox and fillers within the head, face, and neck region. Some states require additional certification or training documentation. AAOPM training prepares you with comprehensive documentation and certification that meets or exceeds requirements in most states. We recommend consulting your state dental board for specific regulations.
AAOPM provides ongoing support including access to our dental aesthetics community, clinical resources, and faculty consultations. We offer refresher courses, advanced training opportunities, and certification pathways for dentists seeking to demonstrate expertise in aesthetic medicine. Our team is available to answer clinical questions as you begin treating patients.
